My team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA is looking for a System Support Analyst to aid in production support. The candidate would be working with Access, SQL Server 2000, a legacy mainframe, Oracle Applications (a financial system, not the actual DB), and some other systems. The most important technical skills needed are in order below.

  • MS Access - Must be proficient and have prior experience. We need a real hacker to maintain our Access production databases. Oftentimes changes have to be made on the fly to live production systems.
  • SQL - Beginner to intermediate. Has to be able to write it from scratch (cannot rely on the Access Query Designer)
  • RDBMS - Has to understand proper database design and fundamentals
  • Some other skills needed are: Excel macros, VB, basic programming skills, generating reports, gathering requirements from end-users, ability to move data around from one system and format into another.

    The work hours are a standard 9-5 day job with some flexibility. This is a full time job with generous benefits. The location is in our corporate headquarters in downtown Boston. An understanding of financial systems and health care is a plus, but not required. This is not necessarily an entry level job and as such, we will be looking for some proven work experience.

    This position's main goal is to support the production environment for our department. Secondary goals include the taking on of various projects. These projects can vary greatly in technology used and scope of use. This position has great growth potential as evidenced by myself, a former CS student. I too started in that position and am now an IT manager on the team. It's a great work environment and a friendly corporate culture.
